Irish music is about the community. Even when you’re playing by yourself, you’re not alone… You imagine all the people who have danced to it, learned it note by note, whistled it or hummed it, nodded their head to it, forgotten its name or mistaken it for something else… All the people whose recordings you’ve listened to and all the people you’ve heard play live and the one guy who never really got the B part right.
You could go almost anywhere in the world and find people playing this music. It’s all through your ears and in your head and your fingers and feet, it’s all you can hear and think about and feel and the sheer joy and frustration gets overpowering sometimes.
You find yourself surrounded by the tune.
